History
Nepal Gaja Development Foundation (NGDF), originally established as Gaja Youth Club in 2054 B.S. (1997 A.D.) in Lekhani, Ward No. 8 of Kathekhola Rural Municipality, Baglung District, began with a strong commitment to social reform. During its initial five years, NGDF concentrated on mobilizing local resources and manpower to bring about tangible change in Lekhani and surrounding Village Development Committees. The foundation’s early work involved repairing rural roads, engaging youth in sports to foster physical and mental well-being, and providing relief to victims of natural disasters.
Today, NGDF has grown into a leading civil society organization in the Gandaki region, championing causes such as nutrition, disability rights, quality education, child rights, women’s empowerment, political stability, and the promotion of inclusive democracy. The foundation is also heavily involved in social mobilization, income generation initiatives, child education programs, water supply and sanitation projects, and infrastructure development. NGDF’s evolving mission reflects its enduring commitment to holistic development and uplifting marginalized communities, making it a key player in shaping the socio-economic landscape of the region.
